Is This Your Calling? 7 Quiet Signs You’re Meant to Do This Work

Wellness

A calling almost never arrives as a thunderclap.

We imagine it should: a clear sign, a moment of certainty, a voice that tells you this is it. So we wait for the thunder, and when it doesn’t come, we decide the quiet pull we’ve been feeling must not count. We talk ourselves out of it. We call it a phase, or a daydream, or something for women with more time, more money, more permission than us.

I’ve sat with thousands of people over nearly two decades, and I’ve watched a lot of women answer this call. Not one of them got the thunder. What they got was quieter, and far more trustworthy. So if some part of you keeps circling the idea of doing this work for real, here are seven signs I’ve learned to recognize. Read them honestly, and notice which ones land in your body and not just your head.

1. You’re already the one people ask

It started small. A friend’s child couldn’t sleep. A sister’s gut was a mess. Someone at pickup wanted to know what you did. And somewhere along the way you became the one people come to. You didn’t appoint yourself. The role found you, which is usually how the real ones begin. We tend to dismiss this because it happened gradually, but a role that arrives on its own, without you ever auditioning for it, is worth paying attention to. People bring their bodies to the person they instinctively trust. They have been trusting you.

2. You learn far past what anyone required

No one assigned you the reading, the videos, the late-night rabbit holes about the body. You did it because you wanted to, because you couldn’t not. A calling shows up as appetite. When you find yourself learning something deeply for no external reward, pay attention; that hunger is information. Most people learn what they have to. The called learn what they can’t stop themselves from learning. If you have a shelf, a folder, or a search history full of this, that is not a hobby. That is a direction.

3. You feel an ache when you can’t help all the way

This is the sign I trust most. You help someone, and it’s good, but you sense there’s a deeper layer you haven’t been taught yet, and not being able to reach it genuinely bothers you. That ache isn’t inadequacy. It’s a practitioner recognizing the gap between what she can do and what she’s meant to be able to do. People without the calling don’t feel this ache; they help where they can and move on. The ache is the sound of a gift asking to be trained.

4. The body fascinates you more than it frightens you

Most people, faced with a symptom, feel fear. You feel curiosity. You want to know what is this body saying, and what does it need. Where others see something broken, you instinctively see something speaking. That reframe, signal instead of shame, is the entire foundation of this work. If it’s already how your mind moves, you’re closer than you think. You don’t have to manufacture this fascination. Either the body pulls your curiosity or it doesn’t, and for you, it clearly does.

5. You’re quietly frustrated with “manage it and move on”

You’ve watched people you love get handed a label and a prescription and sent off to manage symptoms forever, with no one ever asking the deeper question. And it bothers you, not in a combative way, but in a there has to be more than this way. That frustration is often a calling wearing work clothes. It’s pointing at the work you’re meant to do. The people who build something meaningful are almost always the ones who couldn’t accept the standard answer for someone they loved.

6. The idea makes you emotional in a way that surprises you

Here’s a test. Imagine actually doing this: sitting with people, reading their bodies, guiding them back toward their own blueprint, as your real work. Notice what happens in your chest. For the women who are truly called, the honest reaction isn’t that would be nice. It’s something closer to tears. The pull toward this work rarely feels like ambition. It feels like that’s who I already am. Your body often knows the answer before your mind is willing to say it, and a lump in your throat at the thought of this work is your body voting.

7. You keep coming back to it

You’ve set the idea down a dozen times. Decided it wasn’t practical, wasn’t the season, wasn’t for you. And it keeps coming back. Callings are patient and persistent like that. The thing you can’t stop returning to is usually the thing you’re meant to walk toward. A passing interest fades when you ignore it. A calling waits. If this idea has survived years of you trying to set it down, that endurance is its own kind of answer.

What a calling is not

It’s worth saying what these signs are not, because fear loves to disguise itself as humility. A calling is not certainty; almost no one feels certain at the start. It is not fearlessness; the women who answer are usually quite afraid and do it anyway. And it is not proof that you’re already good enough; that part comes from training, not from the calling itself. So if you’re waiting to feel certain, fearless, and qualified before you’ll believe the pull is real, you will wait forever. The calling is the pull. The readiness is built afterward.

What to do with a real calling

If you recognized yourself in most of these, I want to say something gently but clearly: a calling you keep ignoring doesn’t go away. It goes quiet, and quietly costs you. Not in a fearful way; I don’t believe in scaring anyone toward their purpose. But there is a real difference between the woman who finally answered and the woman still waiting for thunder.

Answering doesn’t mean leaping off a cliff. It means taking the next honest step. For this work, that step is IFZC Certification, my twelve-month professional training in Integrative Foot Zoning™. It’s where the ache in sign #3 finally gets met: where you learn the full language, work with the four integrated bodies, and become a practitioner a whole community can trust. It’s depth, not a weekend technique, because the calling you feel deserves real formation, not a shortcut.

And here’s the practical part you need to know: the cohort opens once a year. The doors are open now. This isn’t a manufactured deadline; it’s simply the rhythm of how I train, in small, high-touch groups rather than crowds. If the call is real, this is the season to look at it honestly.

You don’t have to be certain. You only have to be willing to stop pretending the pull isn’t there.

What changes the day you stop pretending

There is a particular relief that comes over a woman the moment she stops pretending the pull isn’t there. I’ve watched it happen across a table more times than I can count. The shoulders drop. The voice steadies. Something she has been holding at arm’s length for years finally gets to come close.

Pretending is exhausting in a way we rarely admit. It takes real energy to keep telling yourself that the thing you think about constantly doesn’t matter, that the role people keep handing you isn’t yours, that the ache you feel is nothing. When you set that pretending down, you don’t suddenly have to have it all figured out. You just stop spending energy denying what you already know. That alone changes how a woman carries herself.

You don’t need permission, only willingness

A lot of women are quietly waiting for someone to tell them they’re allowed. A teacher, a credential, a spouse, a sign. I understand it, but I want to gently take that excuse away, because the permission you’re waiting for is not coming from outside you. It was never going to.

The body didn’t ask for your résumé before it started speaking to you. The friends who come to you didn’t check your qualifications first. They came because they trust you. The willingness is the only thing that was ever required at the start, and the skill is built afterward, on purpose, through training. So the real question was never am I allowed. It was am I willing. Those are very different questions, and only one of them is yours to answer.

The myth of the perfect time

The other thing women wait for is the perfect season, when the kids are older, when there’s more money, when life is calmer. I’ll be honest with you, as a mother who has run a practice and raised a family at the same time: the perfectly clear season almost never arrives. There is always a reason it could be next year.

That doesn’t mean you have to force anything. It means the decision is rarely about timing and almost always about willingness wearing a timing costume. The women who wait for the perfect season usually find that a decade has passed and the calling is still parked exactly where they left it, a little heavier each year. You don’t have to leap recklessly. You only have to be honest about whether not yet has quietly become never.

If you’re still on the fence

Maybe you’ve read all seven signs and you’re still unsure. That’s completely okay. You don’t have to decide your whole future today. You only have to take one honest, low-risk step and let it tell you the truth. Feel the work in a masterclass. Sit in the chair for an analysis. Let your own experience answer the question your overthinking can’t. The body has a way of being clearer than the mind, and one real experience of this work will tell you more than another year of wondering.

The version of you on the other side

Picture the woman you’d become a year from now if you finally answered. She reads a body and knows what she’s seeing. She sits with a frightened friend and offers something steady and skilled instead of a hopeful guess. She no longer feels that ache of the layer she couldn’t reach, because she was trained to reach it. And she carries herself differently, because she stopped abandoning a part of herself.

That woman isn’t a fantasy. She’s simply you, on the other side of a decision you’re already circling. The signs you recognized in yourself are not random. They’re the early sentences of a calling that has been speaking to you for a while, in the same quiet way the body speaks: long before it shouts. The only thing left is to listen.

Frequently asked questions

What if I only recognized myself in a few of the signs? A few is often enough, especially if sign #3, the ache, or sign #7, the returning, are among them. These are the two that fear has the hardest time faking.

I feel the pull but I’m terrified. Does that disqualify me? No. Fear almost always rides alongside a real calling. The women who answer are rarely fearless; they’re simply willing.

Is there a way to test the calling before committing to a year? Yes. The Sole Signal System™ masterclass lets you feel the work in about ninety minutes, and an Integrative Analysis lets you experience it from the inside. Either one will tell you a great deal.
