Just going to the grocery store these days can expose you to more intense cleaning chemicals, due to the increased sanitation practices put in place by businesses. While their intention is a cleaner shopping experience, the outcome of exposure to such chemicals has been associated with a variety of health issues. Because these toxins seem unavoidable sometimes these days, it is becoming increasingly important to detox your body of these chemicals so they don’t trigger trouble or worsen any health conditions.
Why Detox Cleaning Chemicals?
Throughout my practice, clients have come to me with health conditions, and many times we have discovered that reducing their toxic load can tip the scale toward faster and more complete healing. Although we may assume that chemicals are regulated so they don’t cause harm, the unfortunate reality is that the regulation of such chemicals is poor. Scented consumer products alone can boast a concoction of unlisted chemicals in their “fragrance” without needing to put anything on the label. Common consumer products, such as laundry detergents, all-purpose cleaners, air fresheners, and more – even those with a “green,” “organic,” or “natural” label – have been shown to emit harmful VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).
But don’t chemicals get rid of all the bacteria? Actually, studies are beginning to find that bacteria are increasing their resistance to many disinfectants. However, this doesn’t mean that you need to keep using stronger and stronger chemicals – in fact, these simple, effective, and nontoxic solutions work just fine.
Research shows exposure to cleaning chemicals has a variety of effects on health. Below are just a few examples of the many studies on this topic:
- Nurses who regularly use disinfectants have higher risk of developing COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Young children exposed to cleaning chemicals early in life have increased asthma risk
- Women who clean for a living show an accelerated decline in respiratory health
- Increased asthma risk
- Exposure to toxic cleaners at a young age associated with early language delay in 2 year olds
- Cleaning product use while pregnant increases child’s asthma risk
- Prenatal exposure to certain environmental chemicals affects the brain of the child and increases the risk of autism
- Affect the reproductive system
- Leads to lower IQ in 7 year olds
- Prenatal exposure leads to alterations in gut microbiota and subsequent risk of overweight in children
- The link between cleaning chemicals and breast cancer
And many more. I would recommend looking into more research as you see fit. The Environmental Working Group also has some good information and ways to navigate cleaning chemicals as well, including their Guide To Home Cleaners & Air Fresheners.
How To Detox Cleaning Chemicals
Below are some helpful ways to help remove residues from cleaning chemical exposure from your body. If you want an easy-to-follow detox guide plus really great skin in 30 days, check out my Goddess Glow online course here.
HERBAL TEA
Herbs have an innate, beautiful ability to assist our bodies in many ways. All it takes is a little knowledge to put their powers to use! And yes, herbs can cleanse toxic products from your body. The below are powerful specifically for cleaning chemicals:
- A combination of equal parts calendula, chamomile, bladderwrack, & borage (thanks to Anthony Williams for this knowledge!)
You can buy these herbs in bulk and mix them yourself (I love going through Mountain Rose Herbs, but many are available from Amazon), or buy them premixed from these vendors:- Reclaim tea – Solvent Clear
- Spirit Healing tea – Cleaners Detox
- Nettle
- Cleavers
- Red clover
FENNEL
Either the essential oil* or juicing this vegetable/herb will be powerful for detoxing chemicals out. Fennel has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that block inflammation from the body and can help prevent cancer. It is also high in many minerals and vitamins, including Vitamin C, magnesium, folate, iron, and cobalt. Fennel essential oil has potent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Diffusing fennel essential oil or combining with a carrier oil (my favorite is St. John’s Wort*) is a fabulous way to assist the body in detoxification of cleaning chemicals.

PARSLEY WATER
One of my favorite, powerful, tasty, all-around helpful-for-health drinks! Parsley’s powerful alkalizing abilities help restore the pH balance in your body after exposure to toxins. It can also help grab onto the toxins and assist its exit from the body. Parsley water is an important tool in purging the lymphatic system of these toxins. Read more here about parsley water, and/or check out the video to see how to make it:
ADVANCED TRS
This amazing supplement can do so many wonders for the body. It is a supplement that uses nanotechnology to capture heavy metal molecules and other deep chemicals and toxins and uses the body’s natural purging methods to remove them from your body. I have been researching and testing this supplement for quite some time now, and I find it to be extremely powerful in what it does. I would suggest first spraying the bottoms of the feet once a day to see how you do. After a few days, try a spray in the mouth. After a few weeks, try slowly increasing your dosage to about 1 spray for every 30 pounds. Be sure to work with a health practitioner as you try new supplements. You can order Advanced TRS here.
HEAVY METAL DETOX SMOOTHIE
The combination of these five ingredients are not only key for pulling out heavy metals, but can work for other deep-seated toxins as well. Anthony Williams’ recipe of cilantro, wild blueberries, spirulina, barley grass juice powder, and dulse detox but at the same time nourish the body and replenish the minerals it needs to heal. Read more here about the heavy metal detox smoothie.
STAY HYDRATED!
As you detox anything from your body, it is crucial to stay hydrated so that the toxins get flushed out. Otherwise, they can be cleansed from an organ, but without proper hydration to exit the body, they can resettle somewhere else and cause more trouble. See the below resources for amazing hydration!

Non-Toxic Doesn’t Mean Ineffective
We are often conditioned to believe that only chemicals will get something really clean. But the truth is, there are so many common household products (like vinegar and baking soda) that do an amazing job – without the added burden on your health. Remember, it is always harder to pull toxins out than to put them in – so controlling what you are exposed to can make a difference. To learn more about common household products that cause cancer, read more here. For nontoxic household cleaning solutions, check out this article.
Continually and consistently using these methods is a great way to assist your body through the extra sanitation these days! I hope this article empowers you and benefits your health journey.
Blessings,
Amber
